  • Comment: Being the nerd I am, and becoming disturbingly addicted to Lego Star Wars, I was really excited when Lego Harry Potter came out. At first, I thought it was really fun, going to classes, learning new spells, and then playing through a level. After doing this countless times, I realized that the game really wasn't going anywhere, and that every character was basically the same, asides from a few minor abilities. The great thing about Lego Star Wars was that most character were different in terms of their lightsaber moves or shooting abilities. In Lego Harry Potter, there is hardly any difference between playing as Dumbledore or Ron!

    Honestly, I felt like this game was only about running around and destroying every object in a room, collecting the coins, and then repeat in the next room. Hardly any enemys, not a lot of motivation to free play, pain in A*S to actually find characters to buy, and more money than you ever need! I don't think I'll be buying Years 5-7.

  • Comment: My wife and I have purchased and completed EVERY Lego game for the PS3. We don't buy them when they go on sale, we buy them the day they hit the store shelves. We really like these games, but this one is terrible. There are more glitches in this game than every other game we've played combined (and I don't mean just the Lego games). It's as if they didn't even Beta test it. To those of you familiar with the "Hub World" concept from the other games, they even managed to screw that up. The hub world is so confusing you never feel like you know where to go next so they added a little ghost to lead you around. You spend a lot of your time following him all over the place which gets old REALLY quickly. If you don't already have it, pick up a copy of Lego anything else (e.g. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga) for the PS3 instead, but avoid this one like the plague.

  • Comment: I feel the need to post a review for this game because of the large number of one star reviews. I was almost dissuaded from playing due to those reviews, and I don't want anyone else to feel the same way. Honestly, the game did freeze once for me. In the middle of blowing up some flowers I got a black screen and had to do a restart. I didn't have to redo very much, and it wasn't a big deal at all. Of course, there is the game ending glitch in Flitwick's dungeon. Look up the ways around it, save it for last, or wait for a patch. If you take the game as a whole, it's great. Don't let one problem ruin your gaming experience. I've had plenty of fun without ever having to go into Flitwick's dungeon.

    I have played other lego games and I've gotten bored with them. What makes this game different from the ones I've tried is the ability to explore Hogwarts. Playing through the levels is fun, but my favorite parts of the game were spent in year one unlocking spells. The game went very fast after all the spells were unlocked, and it wasn't as interesting then. Never fear though, after all of the levels are complete there is still plenty left in Hogwarts to discover. Of course, loving the Harry Potter series doesn't hurt, and the cutscenes are hilarious. There is much more to this game than running around destroying things, and that helped my enjoyment as well. The different spells are great, the targeting system is great, the levels are great, the story is great. Exploration is fun, shooting random students is fun, listening to Malfoy boo at you as you walk by is fun, and the wizards in the paintings are hilarious. There are rubber duckies, teachers turn you into ice cubes if you attack them, and one of the bathrooms has a water slide in it. What more could you want?

    If you don't own this game yet, which is why you would be reading this review, chances are the bug has been fixed. If so, then there is no reason I can think of for you not to get this game.
