  • Summary: Aussie Western with Irishmen
  • Comment: Here's a real hybrid: an Australian Western featuring a bunch of Irishmen who run afoul of the "coppers" and lead a folk movement afterward. Heath Ledger is the star, and he does a decent job. The accents are a bit thick here and there, but you get the gist. A few love angles are tossed in to keep things interesting. Nothing serious here, and not the best movie ever made. Every once in awhile, we see some native Aussie wildlife to remind us this isn't a backlot in Hollywood.

  • Summary: an afternoon w/ NOTHING to do?
  • Comment: I love Heath Ledger, I also love movies about history.

The movie was a bit boring in the beginning and even towards the middle. Best part is near the ending.

Heath was a fantastic actor, but this movie isn't one of his greatest.

So 3 stars from me- it's just OKAY.

  • Summary: Such Is Life...
  • Comment: I rented this movie five or six times from Blockbuster before I finally made the wise decision to buy it on DVD and save myself some money, which was probably good considering I have watched it many more times since I bought it. I have never seen a movie quite like this. The scenery is breathtaking - as are Ned Kelly's quiet, narrating comments throughout the movie. He always says something poignant right where it fits. Watching this movie is like finding your footing for the first time under a strong waterfall. It feels like you understand so much more after you have watched it. This movie isn't just an outlaw tale. It is truly tragic, emotional and moving. It honors the true Ned Kelly in a way that no other movie or book has. Heath Ledger was phenomenal, as always, and they couldn't have chosen a better actor to play the part. This is the movie I will remember him for - probably the best performance of his career. I cannot quite describe it, but this movie captures the spirit of Australia as well: the natural freedom, openness, and equilibrium of justice. I feel like there is more to this movie than I will ever know, no matter how many times I watch it. In closing, I would like to say that I would not recommend this movie to everyone; only those who will appreciate the subtle beauty of a much simpler world and marvel at the amazing talents of an actor now forever gone.

  • Summary: Interesting Movie, Story, and Life
  • Comment: I bought this movie without seeing it first, but you know what?...I didn't need to! It was a great and very interesting movie!I had only seen the trailer for this when I bought it and I knew it looked good. I have never seen the other Ned Kelly movies, but I really like this one! Also, I never really heard of Ned Kelly to begin with, but I have now! This is a wonderful movie that I HAVE watched more than once. There's also wonderful acting from this cast. Heath Ledger is one of my favorite actors and I think he played a great and intense Ned Kelly. Orlando Bloom also played a very smooth and charming Joe! Naomi Watts and Geoffrey Rush did great as well. I am glad to say that I now know who Ned Kelly was! He was a man and a legend! The bonus features are very interesting and informative, too. I recommend this movie to all movie-watchers!

    R.I.P. Heath Ledger<3

  • Summary: Man who loves horses, but turns bad.
  • Comment: VHS in full-screen.
This film, starring Heath Ledger, starts off interesting with Ned Kelly returning to his hometown.
In the fields, he finds a white horse who he takes into town. Immediatly a man accuses him of stealing that horse. Ned was only being honest, but it ends up in a fight.
On a ranch, he meets a nice woman (Naomi Watts) whoose family has a horse. The horse is not tamed yet. ned offers to train the horse so it would be useful. Instead the owner decides the horse is wild and shoots it dead. Ned moves on to a home he is familar with.
Somehow, Ned with his group of friends, become heroes, but a ruthless lawman turns him into an outlaw.
Not a flattering role for Heath Ledger to play with a horrible ending.
There is one scene of nudity with Heath Ledger.

Also in the cast: Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush.

Note: Heath Ledger and Naomi Watts were lovers at one time, but broke up twice. Heath met Michelle Williams on the set of Brokeback Mountain (Full Screen Edition) (2005). They were engaged with one daughter. Jake Gyllenhaal is the godfather.
Heath Ledger had unexpectedly passed away January 22, 2008 by an accidential overdose of prescription drugs. Distraught over the his "Joker" role in The Dark Knight (Widescreen Single-Disc Edition) and separation from his daughter when him and Michelle broke up.
His last film role is in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus (2009).
